Brief communication: Mountain permafrost acts as an aquitard during an infiltration experiment monitored with electrical resistivity tomography time-lapse measurements

چکیده
Abstract. Frozen layers within the subsurface of rock glaciers are generally assumed to act as aquicludes or aquitards. So far, this behavior has been mainly defined by analyzing geochemical characteristics spring waters. In work, for first time, we experimentally confirmed assumption executing an infiltration test in a glacier Southern Alps, Italy. Time-lapse electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) technique monitored 800 L saltwater released on surface glacier; 24 h ERT monitoring highlighted that injected water was not able infiltrate into underlying frozen layer.

Detection and determination of groundwater contamination plume using time-lapse electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) method
Protection of water resources from contamination and detection of the contaminants and their treatments are among the essential issues in the management of water resources. In this work, the time-lapse electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) surveys were conducted along 7 longitudinal lines in the downstream of the Latian dam in Jajrood (Iran), in order to detect the contamination resulting fro...
متن کاملTime-lapse electrical resistivity tomography of a water infiltration test on Johannishus Esker, Sweden
Managed aquifer recharge (MAR) is an efficient way to remove organic matter from raw water and, at the same time, reduce temperature variation. Two MAR sites were constructed by Karlskrona municipality on Johannishus Esker in Sweden. One of these sites, Vång, was monitored for electrical conductivity and electrical resistivity (using electrical resistivity tomography ERT) during a 9-week tracer...

متن کاملImaging Hydrological Processes in Headwater Riparian Seeps with Time-Lapse Electrical Resistivity.
Delineating hydrologic and pedogenic factors influencing groundwater flow in riparian zones is central in understanding pathways of water and nutrient transport. In this study, we combined two-dimensional time-lapse electrical resistivity imaging (ERI) (depth of investigation approximately 2 m) with hydrometric monitoring to examine hydrological processes in the riparian area of FD-36, a small ...

The highway of Yongweol-ri, Muan-gun, south-western part of the South Korean Peninsula, is underlain by the abandoned of subsurface cavities, which were discovered in 2005. These cavities lie at shallow depths with the range of 5∼15 meters below the ground surface. Numerous subsidence events have repeatedly occurred in the past few years, damaging infrastructure and highway. As a result of cont...
